Delhi Traffic Police Rule: Recently, former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry was killed in a road accident. Investigation revealed that he was sitting on the back seat of the car and he was not wearing a seatbelt. After this high profile accident, there was a demand to make the traffic rules more strict. After which the traffic rules have been tightened in the capital Delhi. According to the new rules of Delhi Traffic Police, now the person sitting behind the car in Delhi is also required to wear a seat belt.
Traffic Police started the campaign on Wednesday
Under the new rule, if the person sitting in the back seat does not use the seat belt, then a fine of Rs 1000 will be imposed. Delhi Traffic Police has started a special campaign on this on Wednesday. On the first day of the campaign, 17 court challans were issued from 11 am to 1 pm. All the challans were deducted under section 194B (Seating of children and use of safety belt) of Motor Vehicle Act. A senior police officer said that a fine of Rs 1000 is being imposed for not following this rule.
Awareness campaign being conducted
Alap Patel, deputy commissioner of Delhi Traffic Police, says that the legal provision for using seat belts is already there. But after the death of Cyrus Mistry, this matter is in discussion last days. Delhi Traffic Police is running a campaign to make people aware about wearing seat belts. It was told by the traffic police that legal action is also being taken for not following the rule.
1900 people lost their lives in accidents
Earlier, through Twitter, Delhi Police had appealed to people not to drive at over speed and always wear seat belts. According to statistics, more than 1900 people lost their lives in road accidents in Delhi last year. Last year, Delhi Traffic Police issued 1.2 crore notices to people who did not use seat belts. Apart from this, cases of over speed were also included in this.
